Winner - Philips Service Design Challenge 2023

The Two-Minutes Stop

Why

There is a critical need for comprehensive support for caregivers of terminally ill family members, particularly those dealing with cancer. The emotional, mental, and logistical challenges faced by caregivers during this difficult time often go unaddressed, and Solace aims to fill this gap by providing holistic care and assistance.

What

Solace is an award-winning service design project developed as part of the Philips Service Design Challenge 2023. With a focus on transforming the lives of caregivers of terminally ill family members, Solace aims to provide comprehensive care and support during challenging life transitions, particularly for those affected by cancer.

How

Solace is intended for individuals who shoulder the responsibility of caregiving and require support in navigating the complex challenges that arise during end-of-life care. Solace acknowledges the crucial role played by caregivers and strives to empower them with the necessary wellness resources and care they deserve.

Why

The architectural+interaction design concept proposes a solution to address the paradox of modern communication. In a world dominated by fast and efficient digital communication, the project aims to rekindle the lost art of oral communication in public spaces. By creating conversation pods and a connected app, the design seeks to provide a unique platform for people with similar interests to engage in meaningful and spontaneous interactions, fostering a sense of community and social connection.

What

The project introduces conversation pods strategically placed in bustling urban spaces. These pods are equipped with interactive displays that connect with a dedicated app. Users can customize the pods based on their interests, attracting like-minded individuals. By bringing people together through shared passions, the project encourages spontaneous conversations and the exchange of ideas in a transient yet efficient manner, emulating the qualities of digital communication.

How

The concept centers around creating opportunities for real-time, face-to-face conversations in a technology-driven world. The project involves the implementation of conversation pods equipped with interactive displays and an app. Users can personalize these pods to reflect their interests, facilitating encounters with others who share similar passions. Ultimately, the design aims to bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds, reinvigorating the art of conversation and fostering a sense of community.
