Senior Product Designer at Upwork, Native-AI Experiences

Designing Upwork's Native-AI experiences

Across these initiatives, the work reflects a consistent focus on designing at scale - moving beyond individual features to shape systems, frameworks, and experiences that hold together across a complex product ecosystem. The projects share a common thread of balancing clarity and flexibility, ensuring that users feel oriented and confident while product teams retain the freedom to evolve.

A strong emphasis was placed on systems thinking, information hierarchy, and durable interaction patterns - designing not just for how experiences look today, but how they adapt over time. Whether building foundational infrastructure like a design system and app shell, or reimagining core experiences such as matching, collaboration, and messaging, the work prioritizes reducing cognitive load and making complexity feel approachable.

Most of these efforts are currently in active testing, with learnings from real usage feeding back into the design process. This ongoing validation ensures that design decisions are grounded in reality, continuously refined, and aligned with both user needs and long-term platform goals.

Upwork's Next-Gen
Design System

With Luis, Mamun, Roman, Haley, Stanislav, and many others

Over the course of 2025 and now in 2026, we are redesigning Upwork's Design system and underlying architecture. It is an evolution of a next-generation design system that serves as a unified foundation across a large, multi-surface product ecosystem. The work focused on creating flexible, composable design primitives and interaction patterns that scale across devices, contexts, and teams.

Designing Smarter, More Intentional Matching
With Shashank, Sijia, Haley, and XFN partners

Worked on the redesign of the core matching experience, focusing on natural language queries, clarity, relevance, and trust. This design effort was the first one to introduce Upwork's completely reimagined product architecture suited for native-AI capabilities. We introduced a system focused on natural language processing and conversational AI, aiming to reduce cognitive load while highlighting the signals that matter most at key decision points.

Collaborative Workspaces on Upwork
With Ben, Lydia, Jonah, Amber, Amanda, and XFN partners

Our team is designing a next-generation collaboration workspace that brings structure and clarity to complex, ongoing work. The focus was on designing flexible yet opinionated patterns that support coordination, context-sharing, and progress over time. This initiative shifts the experience from fragmented interactions toward a more cohesive collaboration environment, powered and managed by Uma, Upwork's Mindful AI.

Messaging as a Persistent Communication Layer
With Josh, Piotr, and many other XFN partners

Over the course of 2025, I led the redesign for Upwork's most-used surface - messaging, into a persistent, AI-powered communication layer that enables consistent messaging and collaboration across the entire product. Designed as shared infrastructure rather than a standalone feature, the experience emphasizes continuity at scale, high-signal communication, and seamless collaboration, with patterns that feel familiar while adapting across surfaces.

Previously

Before Upwork, I was at Carnegie Mellon, where I partnered with Philips, Canon, and others on several projects. Prior to that, I was leading Product Design at Handyland.
